I’m considering upgrading our formica countertops to granite and installing vinyl fencing to enclose our backyard. Would this count as a home improvement and would I be able to deduct this on next year’s taxes or only when I sell the home?

I haven’t had much experience with contact lenses. They are the cosmetic kind, just to change my eyecolor. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to put them in and take them out, and any additional tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My mum collected Home Beautiful for several years in the 1980s.. she kept them all, and most are in fairly good nick. The pastel decor is pretty funny now, but I’m hesitant to turf them. Does anyone think I could sell them on eBay, or is anyone likely to want them as giveaways?

I’m looking at a 2003 tahoe LT right now, has about 90,000 miles on it and it’s going for a really great price. I drove it, tested pretty much everything… All accessories work, 4×4 engages and disengages smoothly BUT the ONE concern I have is the transmission. When I test drove it, the shift from 1st to 2nd is delayed at least 1 second or so… I accelerate…then expect it to shift…it doesn’t…still accelerating and theeen the somewhat hard shift into 2nd finally happens…
Is the dealer responsible for anything that breaks in the vehicle up to a certain amount of days or anything? I mean, lets say I JUST drove it off the lot and down the street and the transmission blows, are they responsible? thanks!

I have a 2002 Ford Focus (which has been the world’s biggest lemon, but that is besides the point) with 50,000 miles. Recently the battery light was on, so I bought a new battery. Then while driving the car, the lights and dash started blinking and then it died. So my husband put in a new alternator. It was a pain to do since the engine had to be moved to get it out. The car worked great for about 4 days and then while on the highway it just stopped working. Now even with a fully charged battery it will not start. All it does is go ‘click, click, click.click…’ The accessories will turn on. Is it possible the new alternator is bad as well. (It is such a pain to take out since the engine has to be moved that we only want to remove it again as a last resort) or is there another problem? We have spent over $3000 on this piece of junk recently that we really don’t want to take it back to the dealership if we don’t have to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I see advertisements for federal grants that do not have to be paid back that are for everything from small business funding to home improvements. I was wondering if anyone has ever received a grant for home improvement and how you apply and/or qualify to receive one. Basically, how do I get one to do home improvements and renovations??

I have signed a contract to have a home improvement company install cabinet doors, they gave me 3 days to break the contract which I did not do. Now my finances have been destroyed, and I cannot proceed with the project. I cancelled the project before they gave me an installation date. They say that I HAVE TO proceed. Do I have to? I can’t. I have paid no money so far.

I’m a first time homeowner/landlord of a two-family house and it’d be nice to get some basic training on plumbing, electrical and other simple home improvement tasks. I’m not looking for an apprenticeship, just something that will give me the tools to solve simple issues for my tenants. Are there any classes available in the Boston area?
